The Montessori approach to educating young children centers on carefully preparing the classroom environment with interesting and age appropriate materials for self-directed learning. Children working in our carefully designed classrooms with the Montessori materials and certified teachers enjoy individualized instruction and concentration on chosen materials. They prefer calm and orderly environments, explode into writing and reading, and are self-confident and happy children. The authentic Montessori materials lend themselves to purposeful cognitive and motor activity which interests young children. It is through manipulation of these specialized materials all of which have lessons of math, language, science, geography etc. embedded in them that the children learn abstract concepts effortlessly. The Montessori approach is an “aid to life” and although there is an emphasis on academics with the beautifully designed materials which lend themselves to children so readily, this time honored approach also provides valuable insight into the natural development of the child.
